DC TOURISTS!

We've lived in this beautiful and historic part of the country for over 2 months now, and FINALLY got to the District to see some sights! I came here about 5 years ago on my own, but Chris has never been. For those of you that have, you know that there's way too much to get done in one day, so we'll have to go again.

We started off taking the metro for the first time ever, and it dropped us right in the middle of the "mall" (the long space of grass between the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building) so the photos start there!

We then went over to the Natural History Museum. This ended up being the only museum we went in mostly because it was such a gorgeous day!

These exhibits are so cool, and we only did one floor of the museum, more to see at a later date!

We then walked a few blocks to the White House. We were pretty far from it, but as we got closer, realized there were other people a lot closer than the fence we were stopped at.

After this, we walked around to a tent, and they were giving out tickets to a garden tour of the white house grounds!!! We didn't get to go inside (apparently you have to write to your senator to get an invitation for one of those tours...which I plan on doing!) but it was SO COOL and SO BEAUTIFUL!!

We found out while talking to other tourists at the White House, that Obama had been speaking at the dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Monument about 30 minutes before, so we were bummed that we missed that. We still went over to that new memorial though, and it was really cool. We also saw Lincoln and Jefferson on our way there...lots and lots of walking!

All in all, if you're still reading this, I applaud you for making it through all of these pictures. :) We had a great day, it was wonderful for us to get out of the house together and actually have a day to just enjoy each other and the beautiful place we now live. We will definitely be making a trip down there again soon!
